Camp John J. Barnhardt · Central North Carolina Council
Winter Camp
Merit badges, warm program areas and a whole lot of camp spirit between Christmas and New Year’s.
Winter 2026: Blue Eggs and Clams
Do you like blue eggs? Do you like them with clams?
Do you like them with syrup, or jelly, or jams?
Will you eat them while freezing? Will you eat them in snow?
At Camp John J. Barnhardt is where you must go!
Pack up your warm sleeping bag, parka, and hat,
For a winter adventure of this and of that.
It’s a wonderful chance to test cold-weather skills,
While finding out just who can brave the camp chills!
Under the sign of the ax and crossed saw,
We’ll conquer the freeze with a laugh and a “gaw!”
We have games in the woods, we have games on the lake,
With so many silly new memories to make:
Will you jump in the lake when it’s chilly and cold?
Will you dive in the deep if you’re brave and you’re bold?
You’ll be splashing for glory and swimming with pep,
While stacking up turtles at every cold step!
Can you spot the wild goat who is wearing a coat?
Can you track down his trail? Can you write him a note?
It’s a game of great mystery, cunning, and speed,
To find out just what that warm goat might need!
Will you whip up a stew that is steaming and sweet?
Will you bake a blue egg for your patrol to eat?
Bring your pots and your pans and your finest camp chefs,
To impress all our judges from A down to F!
We are offering badges—yes, two or indeed three!
Taught by our own expert Barnhardt staff family.
There is so much to do, there is so much to try,
Underneath the cold, beautiful Carolina sky:
Learn the ways of the brain with Psychology smart,
Or bring drawings to life with some Animation art!
Will you climb up a Climbing wall, rocky and high?
Or aim a great Rifle and watch targets fly?
We have First Aid for bumps and for bruises and blows,
And Wilderness Survival for when the wind blows!
And for older, brave Scouts who want leadership fame,
Our Counselor-in-Training is the name of the game!
All merit badge sessions and classes, you see,
are scheduled on December 28th and 29th(yippee!).
If your troop cannot stay for all three chilly nights,
you can easily adjust how you set up your sights!
Come brave the cold weather! Come join in the fun!
We can’t wait to see you when camp has begun.
Grab your troop, make a plan, and register today,
Before all the blue eggs and clams slip away!
The 2026 merit badge schedule will be available on August 19th. See the 2025 schedule below for an example of badges typically offered at winter camp
